Frequently Asked Questions
I’m a complete beginner. Is that okay?Absolutely. You don’t need any previous experience or technical knowledge. I’ll start at your level and explain things in a simple, practical way without drowning you in jargon.
What can I learn in a 1-on-1 lesson?Whatever you need help with! We can cover camera settings, getting off Auto, aperture, shutter speed and ISO, composition, portraits, night fotography, focusing, lenses, Lightroom and plenty more. Your lesson is built around what you want to learn.
Do I need a particular type of camera? No. I teach most DSLR and mirrorless camera systems, including Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Olympus/OM System and Panasonic/Lumix ,Pentax and Leica. I can help with smartphone fotography also!
What if I don’t know what I need to learn? That’s completely fine — and very common. Before your lesson, we’ll have a chat about your fotography, what you enjoy shooting, what you already know and anything you’ve been struggling with. From there, I can work out what we should concentrate on during your time with me.
Where are the 1-on-1 lessons held?My personal lessons are based in Camperdown, Sydney. Depending on the lesson, we can work through your camera and techniques and then put what you’ve learned into practice.
Is the lesson tailored to me?Absolutely. This isn’t a class where everyone follows the same lesson plan. It’s your time, so we concentrate on the things that will make the biggest difference to your fotography. If we discover something along the way that you want to explore further, we can change direction and work on that too.
